                                                                 TO BE LAUNCHED

Mid September 2010

Ultimate Driving Craft 2 Day & Night follows on from my hugely successful first DVD, Ultimate Driving Craft. It has sold to drivers in 33 countries, and is still available. The new

DVD is delivered with  a detailed instructor’s commentary as before, but there are more exciting camera angles together with new and very interesting subject matter.

The new DVD wll be a two disc title with a total running time close to 3 hours. The final details of actual running time and cost will follow shortly.

Subjects

Subjects covered are – the police method of cornering, driver’s signals, gear lever grip, overtaking, a friendly follow,

night driving, advice to women driving alone at night, and

three chapters of general commentary driving. Also included is safety advice, with regards to the danger of air bag deployment relative to steering technique.

Cornering

How many times do we see skid marks at the approach to a bend, often disappearing off the road? How many times do we see a driver braking into, or in a bend because their entry speed speed was too fast?

In my new DVD you will see for the first time, a definitive explanation and demonstration of how a driver can enter any public highway blind bend, anywhere in the world, within a mile an hour or two of the perfect entry speed.

Cornering will be covered in depth,  breaking the skill of cornering into three parts; the approach, (the most difficult to get right), the curve and the exit.   I will explain and demonstrate the police method of cornering in a way not seen before on any DVD.

How the method works will be made much clearer, and easier to understand by using real time slow motion footage aided by very clever graphics.

This cornering chapter is likely to form the best teaching method for all observers and driver trainers

world-wide, and will be an ideal classroom teaching aid.

The limit point method has been taught at the Metropolitan Police Motor Driving School Hendon for over 40 years, although it never appeared in Roadcraft until 1994.

As a member of a Home Office Working Party in the early nineties I spent a great deal of time researching cornering methods both on the public highway and on the race track.

The Met. Police even hired Bruntingthorpe for the day to evaluate several techniques. A curve was set up  with speed detecting equipment positioned on final approach, mid curve and exit. Every known vehicle type, including Honda's 4 wheel steer, was used to make comparisons.

After our research the limit point method was adopted into the 1994 Roadcraft as it proved to be the safest cornering method on the public highway. I am sure you will find the cornering chapter and the subsequent validation drives very interesting indeed.

But, there is more to this new DVD other than cornering.

Driver's signals

The driver's signals section explains why police are trained to use selective signals.

Night driving

Night driving - Using  the latest Sony HD Camera has captured some excellent footage even on totally dark lanes, as can be seen on the DVD front cover above.

Friendly follow

The ‘friendly follow’, or driving as a pair, is a precursor to UK police pursuit training. I  paired  up with another former Hendon class 1 police advanced driving instructor, Andrew Leonard,  to demonstrate a friendly following run. The object being to plan well ahead of the target vehicle so that all options are covered, thus, there is a different style of commentary to be heard. This chapter runs for an exciting 25 minutes. All speed limits are  adhered to as well as all the regulations of the road, as you would expect. To my knowledge this is the first time this type of driving has been shown on a DVD. I know it is eagerly awaited by many.

Overtaking

The overtaking chapter was filmed with the help of my

ex- Hendon colleague, Andrew Leonard mentioned above.

Women driving alone

This chapter is likely to be of great interest to all women drivers, and another first on DVD. It is advice to women driving alone at night and what to do if they suspect they are being followed. In such circumstances the natural reaction is to increase speed and /or  make for home - neither are advisable. Having taught anti-surveillance driving,  I feel I'm ideally placed to give advice. I believe this is the very first DVD in the world to give such guidance.

General commentary driving

There are three chapters of general commentary driving  and for those of you who have seen Ultimate Driving Craft you will not be surprised to learn that each is packed with advice and information. The cars used in these chapters are - Honda Jazz 1.4, Vauxhall Insignia 2.0 Diesel and a BMW Auto.

For many reasons this new DVD is highly recommended viewing and the 'interested list'  is expanding rapidly.  One of the TV editing studio staff said his watching of the DVD

was - 'an exciting, educational experience'.

The Mercedes 2.6 Auto is driven by

ex- police instructor Andrew Leonard mentioned above.
